Open wetland has an extensive Scirpus cyperinus community in the middle with smaller patches of Leersia oryzoides in side moats. Upland forests surrounding wetland are rich northern hardwoods and successional tulip poplar.;Seepage swamp in floodplain of small creek at head of large beaver -influenced wetland complex. This stand is probably not ever flooded by beaver ponds but rather by seepage and flooding from the 2 small streams on both sides of plot. Canopy of smallish trees including hemlock, yellow birch, and red maple over dense shrub layer of Rhododendron maximum. Ground cover is mostly bryophytes with open muck with shallow standing water. No exotics or invasives noted. Trees are rooted on nurse logs and tipmounds.
Representativeness
Small patch of swamp forest at upstream end of large open wetland complex. Plot contains a small opening but is mostly densely shaded. This community lacks many high elevation indicators.
